Transitioning and Low Manipulation Are Great for My Hair...But it Ain't Easy!...based on a true story.

I'm transitioning as you may know and have been pretty vocal about the advantages of moving from relaxed to natural hair.

I've been washing/co-washing, airdrying and Caruso steam rolling or rollersetting for months with little manipulation so as to basically leave my hair and roots alone to prevent breakage at all levels...and yes I moistuize and seal a minimum of once a day. It sounds kinda easy as I read what I'm writing but its not easy- at all.

I touch my hair a lot more now. Why? Because my new growth hasn't felt like this in years- like 20 years and I'm amazed. It feels good and big and healthy. Sometimes while I'm in the mirror I'll separate a piece in the back of my hair and just look at how wavy my roots are and how much my hair has grown in just 4 months. BUT when this stuff gets dry and needs to be washed or cowashed those pretty waves are a matted, compacted, desert begging for water and product. It's all good though- because its time for a come up!' Come up out' of that chemical and the breakage, dryness and destruction that "creamy crack" brings with it. Yup, I gotta do it. BUT, do know if the relaxer wasn't causing any issues, I'd still subscribe because it is easier and I'm all about convenience. Why did you 'come up out' of relaxing?

My New Airdrying...'Tweek'

There is always a 'tweek' when the subject or action of airdrying surfaces. We all have a lil something extra that we swear makes our hair come out a little straighter or gives better curl definition.

I use the Scarf Method (Sunshyne) but added a twist...I use one of those mesh scarves that the hairdresser used to hold your rollers and ear protectors in place. This allows air to circulate around your hair while drying it flat.

I love it and hopefully you will too. Do you have any airdrying 'tweeks' to share?

I'm Going Natural...

At least for now I am...:-)

I just feel like the relaxer is doing much more harm than good. I've been getting significant breakage in the back and people always ask me if I'm natural...so what's the point in relaxing.

I'll keep you posted on my new journey!

Keeping Shedding and Breakage to a Minimum When Washing then Airdrying Hair!

Sheww, that was a long title but it was necessary.

An "Ahh-Ha" moment hit me this morning while co-washing my hair.

While rinsing, lightly finger detangle/comb in the direction that I'm going to airdry--which is the ponytail. Although, I still had natural shedding it was much much less especially since I'm 12 weeks post and hadn't combed my hair in a week. My roots are crazy!

The result was when I stepped out of the shower, my hair was all going back in the direction I desired and when I t-shirt dried my hair was flat in the same direction. I carefully applied Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship Leave-In in the direction of my hair and sealed with Chi-Silk Infusion. Lightly combed the ends of my hair to remove any tangles and shedded hair, pulled back in a ponytail and silk scarf.

Update: 4 hours later...my hair is flat and straight as if I had detangled with a comb. It's not dry yet but its getting there and I'm pretty happy with the results so far.
